The 5 Habits That Make You Happier

Do You Want to be Happy?

This might sound like a silly question. Who wouldn’t want to be happy?? Well, it turns out that this is not the case for everyone.

I know, because I have been that person. I used to feel that I had “the right” to be angry, bitter and depressed since life had handed me such a shitty hand of cards.

Few things could provoke me more than people claiming that happiness has to come from within. My go-to response was, “Don’t you think I would have been happy if my life didn’t suck!!???”

I know I’m not alone in defending myself that way. I hear it all the time. Life sucks, so let’s ALL be miserable…..

Listen up!

My life isn’t perfect and I am far from perfect, but I am happier than I have ever been before! I wake up happy, grateful just to be alive, knowing that today I’m taking one step further towards my goals in this exciting journey called Life.

I don’t think a life without problems is realistic. It’s how we are able to deal with those problems that makes ALL the difference.

Ponder This

Your quality of life isn’t measured by how wealthy you are, the size of your house or how expensive your car is. Your quality of life isn’t measured by how healthy you are or what you look like.

Your quality of life is measured by how you FEEL. If you depend on other people and circumstances to make you happy, you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to change other people and control the world around you. The irony is that the only thing we can control is our own mind.

Who else but you controls how you think and feel? Only YOU can think your thoughts. Only YOU can feel your feelings. It’s time to stop the blame game. Join our next class to learn how: https://masterkey.vision/bibi

The techniques you’ll learn in the class are based on science, it’s not a hype. Start TODAY by following these simple but effective tricks:

The 5 Habits That Make You Happier

1. Gratitude:
Write down 3 things every day that you are grateful for.
Read them, feel the gratitude.
Repeat daily with 3 new things/persons/events.
Here’s a helpful reminder/question if you can’t find anything to be grateful for:  What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things you were grateful for today?

2. Journaling:
Write just one or two sentences daily about something nice that happened that day. It doesn’t have to be HUGE. For example, you enjoyed the taste of your coffee that morning. Or perhaps you heard a bird chipper. You read a good book. A stranger smiled to you. Write it down. Re-live the moment, feel it. Repeat (Read it again, re-feel it again the next day, and the next).

3. Exercise:
Move that body! Go for a walk. Dance. Do a few jumping jacks to get a charge of the so-called happy hormones. 5 minutes daily or more. Start small. Just do something.

4. Meditation:

A relaxed mind is a happier mind. If you have never meditated before, you can always start by listening to guided mediations on apps or YouTube. When you think you’ve got the idea, try alone … You may have a topic or a goal you wish to meditate on, perhaps an intention, or just to clear your mind. Start with 10 minutes daily, increase to 30 minutes and more when you get the hang of it.

5. Random Acts of Kindness:
When you are kind to other people, you brighten their day. Being kind to others is also a way of being kind to yourself. It feels good to be kind! In a world where you can be anything, be kind. Watch the ripple effects…

Who Wants a FREE Hug?

Happy New Year! Yup, this is my first blog post in 2021. I came down with a nasty cold between Xmas and new years and barely had the energy to keep up with work and other obligations. But I’m back and I’m on the mend!

One year ago, one of my dear friends and I decided to take the Kindness Week Challenge one step further. Before I show you what we did, let me explain what the challenge is all about:

The Guinness Book of Records

OK, so this particular record might not be recorded there…. However, I think our record is more important than any normal world record.

Our record isn’t what I’d consider “nomal”. If it was, everyone would be doing it already – right? And if everyone was, we wouldn’t have to….

You see, with our record we are making the world a better place. One person at a time, plus the ripple effects.

What we’re doing this week in the Master Key members’ area is leaving comments every single time we observe or do an act of kindness. We have challenged one another to leave more comments than the previous year’s members did, thereby setting a new record.

Why?

Because what we focus on grows.

Breaking the record, “beating” last year’s members in the amount of kindnesses reported is of course not the goal….

…. Making our world a better place is, and when we do that – we are ALL winners! 🙂

In previous years (when hugging strangers was fine) the staff and guides of the Master Key have celebrated at the end of the week by giving out free hugs to strangers on the street. (Here’s a video from the free hugs in 2018).

Last Year …

In January 2019, my friend Nina and I were confident that the members would break the record, so we decided to “act as if it has already happened” by giving out free hugs on the street and celebrate in advance.

We made signs that said, “Free Hugs!” and “Do you want a HUG?” (the latter in our native language, Norwegian), hung them around our necks and started walking around down-town here in Fredrikstad… Yes, I was WALKING!! Just a couple of weeks before this event, I was finally able to walk without using crutches for the first time in over three years. But I digress, back to the story:

We Norwegians are not exactly famous for being chatty with strangers… but to Nina’s and my pleasant surprise, our fellow Norwegians actually thought this “free hugs” thing was a good idea, and we lost count of how many people we hugged that day!

We hugged people of all ages

– even those “too cool for school” teens who might think that everything we “dinosaurs” do is silly and embarrasing…. (Hey, I get it, I used to be that kind of teen myself!). Some of these teens pointed at us and snickered when they saw our signs, but every teen that we met did hug us and many of them said they thought it was a great idea! We encouraged them to try it out at their school. I hope they did.

Out of all the people we offered a free hug that day, only 3 or 4 said no. Saying ‘no’ to hug strangers is perfectly fine, of course, and we just smiled and wished them a nice day. Nearly 100 % liked our kindness campaign, most people loved it!

I wonder how many lives we touched that day. For some, this might be have been the only hug they got all year … Others were perhaps inspired to spread some kindness on their own. What I know for sure is that we did make many people very happy that day. Ourselves included.

This was such a fun and lovely experience, we have saved the signs so we can do it again!

Some of the huggers embraced us.

If you don’t feel like hugging strangers on the street, remember that a kind word is like a verbal hug.

In Book II of “Rhetoric”, Aristotle defines kindness as “helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped”.
The movie ‘Pay it Forward’ illustrates the power one person can have to make an impact on a chain reaction of kind deeds. The philosophy of ‘Pay It Forward’ is that through acts of kindness among strangers, we all foster a more caring society.
“Kindness Boomerang” is a video by ‘Life Vest Inside’ . It shows how one act of kindness passes seamlessly from one person to the next and boomerangs back to the person who set it into motion. Within months after its release, Kindness Boomerang went viral. The video has been viewed over 34 million times! Here it is:

I Hope You Dance! (W8)

Repost from 12. November 2019.

Here’s what I wrote during my first year in the Master Key Experience, Week 8:

I keep saying that “this is the best week” of the Master Key Experience.

Well, what can I do after Sunday’s webinar but repeat myself? And then… reading Lesson 8 of the Master Key System. Oh, my friggin’ goodness! This IS the best week!

“The law of attraction will certainly and unerringly bring to you the conditions, environment, and experiences in life, corresponding with your habitual, characteristic, predominant mental attitude. Not what you think once in a while (…) BUT your predominant mental attitude is what counts.” (Haanel, 8.18)

Let me repeat that:

Your predominant mental attitude is what counts.

And – you get to choose your own mental attitude, as we have found out by DOING the exercises from the previous weeks of this mental attitude-altering, life-altering course!

Therefore, my dear fellow students, please allow me to present this song as a gift for you. The lyrics are in the video:

I HOPE YOU DANCE!

I really hope you will.
Promise me you will!
‘Cos I know that you always keep your promises.

With Love,
Bibi

Fast Forward to 2020:

Now that I look back at my blog posts from last year, I am reminded of all the positive changes in my own mental attitude -and it happened in just a matter of weeks. Multiple years of therapy in the past had not helped me much (not permanently anyway), but this course made all the difference – and it happened FAST! No wonder I want everyone in the whole world to take this course!

I know that this course, or experience, is different for everyone. What one individual gets out of this course is different from everyone else, our goals are also very different, and whether you reach those goals depends on a few factors: The amount of mental luggage (aka cement) when joining this course is, perhaps, one – our willingness to be brutally honest with ourselves and stop blaming others is certainly another. Having said that – remember that YOU are perfect the way you are at your point in your own journey! Perfectly perfect, perhaps not complete. Be kind to yourself. Love yourself for who you are and where you are right now.

I know that I have a long journey ahead of me still before I truly am, 100 % of the time, the person I intend to become. But I also know that I CAN be that person when I continue to be persistent with a clear ideal as my goal. Without a goal, how else will I know which path to choose when I come to a fork in the road? Every single choice I make is at a fork in the road. Whether it’s a choice in what I think, feel, say, or do – it is nothing more than a choice between one path or the other. I can choose the path that leads to my ideal goal, or I can choose to take a detour down a different path…. It is always a choice.

I do not ALWAYS choose the path that leads to my ideal goal, but I am getting better at it. When my first year at the Master Key Experience ended in March 2020, I kept doing the mental exerises every single day, and I still do, because I know first hand that they WORK. One step at a time, one minor change at a time, the compounding effect will get me where I want to be – and to WHO I want to be.

Why do you think Mark & Davene, who have been teaching this course for a decade, still do the very same exercises they teach their students?

“For when an act becomes easy through constant repetition it becomes a pleasure to perform, and if it is a pleasure to perform it is man’s nature to perform it often. When I perform it often, it becomes a habit and I become its slave and since it is a good habit, this is my will.” (from Scroll I, The Greatest Salesman in the World)

The mental exercises we learn is this course can be compared to building muscles – once you have’em, you can’t stop exercising and expect the muscles to stay strong, let alone expect them to grow…

So I keep going to the gym. The mind gym, that is. It’s not “just exercises” anymore- it’s a way of life. It’s a way of being. Just like ALL habits are, good and bad alike. Choose good habits and the bad ones vanish. It’s that simple. Persistent Practise Prouduces Perfect Presentations.

Here are some other fine folks who keep going to the mind gym:

W6 – I’m in Shape!

Here’s what I wrote for week 6 in my first year through the Master Key Experience:

Jokingly, I have always said, “I’m in shape. Round is a shape!”

But that’s not the kind of shape I’m talking about. I am surrounded by shapes of blue rectangles, red circles, green triangles, and yellow squares – all over the house, in my car, on the outside of my MKE ring binders, yup, all over the place. And I’m lovin’ it!

My darling made the shapes out of wood for me.

After the webinar on Sunday night, I stayed up till the wee morning hours to fill in my two PPNs and two main SMART goals inside the shapes. I also found some photos I wanted to include on my “Movie Poster” aka Dreamboard. It felt great finding those photos, I was living my dream and visualising it. I FELT it!!

After making my Movie Poster, I printed out a few A4 sized ones to keep in my MKE ring binders and hung up a few at strategic places around the house, one is also glued to the back of my written DMP. I printed out a couple of index card sized Movie Poster as well – one is now a bookmark in the Greatest Salesman in the World (so I see it at least 3 x daily), the other one is in my pencil case (where the blue, red, green and yellow markers are), and I’m using a photo of my Movie Poster as the background on my PC screen and mobile phone.

Another thing I loved about this week’s webinar was the part about seeing our future self as our very best friend! YESSSS! Love that! This previous procrastinator NEEDED to hear that!! I’m done expecting my future self to clean up after my present self!

I have changed so much already, compared to where I was when we started 6 weeks ago. If you read my Week 1 blog post, you know that I was not at a good place when I joined this course… but now? Holy macaroni, I’m so exited and happy! I also have an optimism about my future that I have never been even remotely close to having before.

Sure, I still fall now and then – but I get back up! Sometimes I’m worried that there was an assignment or exercise I forgot or that there was something I misunderstood, but I remind myself that it’s all good …. and that a relaxed mind is vital, no, crucial! Take a deep breath … and repeat: PEACE be the journey

Fast forward to 2020:

Every since I heard Davene talk about how she put palmtrees around her and Mark’s flat to bring their DMP to life, I have filled my house with “my DMP in 3D” – such as donkey figurines to remind me of my farm haven for donkeys and other animals, my tea cup has a donkey on it, I’ve bought clothes with donkey prints, I have photos on the wall and fridge of the four donkeys I adopted via The Donkey Sanctuary, and I’ve met several donkeys in person as well, AND – last week I got a donkey tattoo on my arm! 😀 (I already have a tattoo of the compass and shapes on the other).

Yesterday I made a book cover to bring one of my children’s book to life, printed it out and glued it onto a book so it looks real:

I had to make the cover a little taller than my design to fit on the book

Seeing my book cover on an actual book feels fantastic!! I have placed it standing up so I see it when I’m working on my books. I’m illustrating my children’s books with my own drawings, but I won’t show anyone these illustrations until the books are published – the first one before August 2021. For the sake of the “DMP in 3D” book cover, I made it by editing some free cliparts. I love playing with Photoshop like this!

In what ways have YOU brought your DMP to life? I’d love to hear in the comments below.

Grateful for… Gratefulness!

grateful pink

What if you woke up tomorrow with only what you were grateful for today? 😱

How’s that for a kick-in-the-butt reminder!?

In March last year, I bought an anxiety journal where one of the exercises was to write down three things I was grateful for every single day. I was at a really bad place at the time and I only managed to write the name of my dog and the name of my boyfriend. I simply could not think of anything else to be grateful for! I had pretty much lost the will to live. Well, things have certainly changed since then. Actually, things haven’t changed that much – I have changed!

For the past 12 months, the daily habit of writing down three things I’m grateful for has been a breeze. I can easily name hundreds of things, circumstances, and people that I’m grateful for. And I mean deeply grateful, not just saying it but feeling truly grateful.

More than anything, I am grateful for gratefulness. I am grateful that I AM grateful for so many things. I am grateful for being in a grateful state of mind.

grateful

What are you grateful for today? I’d love to hear from you!
