W1 B – Looking back on my own first week

I can still remember what it was like to be a first-time student at the Master Key Experience. When reading the blog post I had written during my very first week, it’s also a reminder of how much I have learned and grown since then.

Personal growth is a life-long process. I still have some “stuff” to work on (don’t we all?), but because of the MKE I have found the tools that really do work when I am willing to use them and take charge of my life. No more excuses, no more blaming and pointing fingers at others. My life is MY responsibility. Period! This fact is no longer scary to me, as it was back then. On the contrary – it’s empowering!

This is what I wrote
when I was a new student:

Master Key Experience, Week 1

This record of my journey will and must be honest. I am done pretending to be what I am not, done pretending to be happy and/or excited when I’m not. If I am to chip off all those layers of cement that hides the gold underneath, I must be honest and not pretend that I have chipped off more than I actually have …

So far? About 2 grams worth of cement. Hey, it’s a start!

I am certain that it is indeed possible to get it all off. Gram by gram, till tons of cement have been turned into dust. [Edit: What is the cement I’m referring to? Check out the video in this post]

I am optimistic. I have done my homework every day, and I have particularly enjoyed reading Scroll 1 in The Greatest Salesman in the World. As for Haanel’s Master Key System, Part One … there are things I don’t understand how can be, things I do not believe (yet?), but I do read it every day and I am open-minded (I think!). It will all make sense later. Right?

It all feels a bit overwhelming right now; repeatedly reading in a foreign language (I am Norwegian, btw). I have an OK grasp of the English language, but – and I believe this is an important but – working with my own mind in a language that is not my own feels … superficial, I s’pose. Language is such an important part of our identity, and when I communicate in English I really don’t FEEL the words. Having said that, I guess I just have to trust that the words will find a path on their own into my heart, into my core and – yay – into my subconsciousness!

I sent in the 1st draft of my DMP the other day and got a revision back, one which I found most interesting and I trust my guide’s inputs on how to improve my DMP.

I AM grateful to be on this journey. I truly am! I just struggle with a few things, that’s all …

That’s it for now. Thank you for your time.

Keep up the good work, all you golden nuggets out there! ♥

Optimistically yours,

Fast forward to today: Now that I’m a guide at the Master Key Experience, it means that the first week is very different for me than when I was a student – but this is what they have in common: It’s exciting! Receiving the first draft of the new members’ DMP (Definite Major Purpose) and thereby getting a glimpse into their dreams and goals has been wonderful. I take their DMPs very seriously and do my very best to guide them along in the process. Writing a really good DMP might take weeks, even months. During my first year, I refined my own more times than I can even remember – and in the process, I found more gold inside myself, under all that cement! This process cannot be rushed. Give it time …. Give yourself time.

The first week for guides is also busy with a lot of work, and it can feel overwhelming at times. The main difference is what I DO when I’m feeling overwhelmed. The old me would try to escape by watching TV for a few hours. The present me takes a long “SIT” – my place in silence where I relax on a deeper level than ever before. A relaxed mind is crucial and I must take care of my own needs before I can be of any help to others. A relaxed, calm state of mind is the only doorway to progress mentally.

My #1 advice to new students: Relax and trust the process …

I promise to follow my own advice.

W1 A – Reblogging: Resistance

Hey, Master Key Experience friends! Check out this fantastic blog post by one of our new members. Stacy had some resistance before joining the course but asked herself, “If not, when?” – such a timely question!

She writes:

“This is the beginning of a journey. My journey. It started with a LOT of resistance.

A very good friend of mine took a class a year ago and had told me about it, but I had no interest in it for myself. She shared a few things about it over the course of the year, and she was extremely excited about it. I watched and enjoyed her excitement, but it still wasn’t for me. I also watched her transform and blossom. I still wasn’t convinced.

A new session of the class was about to begin, and my friend wanted me to consider signing up. My first reaction was still “Nah, it’s not for me”. I had no intention of taking the course. But, it was always in the back of my mind. “What if?” What if I could finally figure out what I wanted to do with my life? What if I finally find that thing I feel like I’m missing to finally figure out the meaning of life? What if my life could be better than it’s ever been?

After struggling with all those What If thoughts for a few weeks, I decided to go for it. I did the initial sign up, but had to fill out an application. There were all kinds of things in that application that caused me to hit the brakes hard. I was okay with most of it, but there were a couple things on that application that made me say “Oh, hell no!”. This blog was one of them. As you can see, I got over that hurdle also. It didn’t come easy or quickly. That question, “What If?” was still there, and it’s what pushed me forward. I had one more hurdle, another “hell no” from me, and after another struggle, it came down to this: If not now, when? I’m 55 years old. I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I work for an amazing company, but it doesn’t feel like the right fit. I feel like there is something else I was meant to do. I just don’t know what it is. How long am I going to wait to figure it out? I’m not getting any younger. Time’s running out. If not now, when? How much more time am I going to waste?

The first class of the Master Key Experience starts tomorrow. After about 10 days of putting in my application, there is no longer any resistance. I can’t expect things to change if I keep doing the same thing. I can’t move forward if I stay where I am. It’s time to take a chance and move forward. I’m excited about the possibilities. Maybe I will find my true purpose on this earth, maybe it will be associated with my hobby, maybe it will be working with teens, or maybe I will learn something that will show me I really do fit in the job I have now. Who knows, but I’m excited to find out.”

My Secret to Success

My secret to personal success is really no secret at all.  Ask anyone who has achieved their goals, and they’ll tell you the same thing. Best of all? – Anyone can do it. It’s really this simple:

lion green eyes

If you can’t be bothered reading this rather lengthy and personal post, just click to see the online course that changed everything for me!

I said it’s simple, but perhaps not easy. – Many people do not even know what they want! I know what that’s like. In the past, I knew what I didn’t want, but I had no clear goals – I just wanted to avoid pain. I thought a lot about all the things I didn’t want, such as “I don’t want to be sick, I don’t want to be unhappy, anxious, feel worthless….”, and so on.

And it worked! I did get more of what I focused on! So I got sicker, more depressed, more worried, and my confidence had hit rock bottom.

In September 2019, I joined an online-course of six months and since then my focus has been laser-sharp on the outcome I want. Because I have focused on the positive outcome, I can check quite a few boxes already!

Before I show you my list of personal achievements so far, I want to give you an idea of where I was at when I joined this life-altering course in September. The reason I want to tell you is that my story goes to show that what I have learned really works. You see, before I joined the course I had so much anxiety that I didn’t even dare to be alone. I had been on heavy meds for years (for bipolar disorder since 1994 and painkillers since 2005 due to a spinal deformity). I had very little energy and had to sleep for at least two hours during the day, every single day since 2010. I also struggled with memory loss and eventually ended up on disability pension. For the past 4 years, I couldn’t walk more than 10-15 meters without crutches. Sometimes I used a wheelchair to get around. I was in debt, had no confidence that I’d ever work again, I was seriously worried about my future. But let’s not dwell on the past! I have a brand new life, and it keeps getting better!

In no particular order, EXCEPT the first one – which was vital to achieving the rest, here’s what I have achieved since September 2019. And this is only the beginning ……

  • I’m happy – every day!
  • I’ve found my life purpose.
  • I know how to reach my goals.
  • I’ve lost weight.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Painfree spine.
  • Quit taking meds and painkillers *
  • I can walk 100 times further!!
  • And I dance every day 🙂
  • I feel confident.
  • Made friends, found my tribe.
  • Spiritual awakening.

* I want to stress that I did wean off the anti bipolar meds with support of my physician and that I did not quit overnight. The side effects to quitting cold turkey can be quite severe. I ticked all the boxes with symptoms before, but I no longer have those ups (mania) and downs (depressions). I feel perfectly “normal” (for lack of a better word) and that’s all that matters to me 🙂

Would none of the achievements above have happened anyway without me taking the online course? Well, without it I seriously doubt that I would have gotten anywhere – I’d most likely continue attracting all the things I did not want, as before.

More than anything, I know that I have found the real key to personal success. I have found my true purpose (to write inspirational books to help others) and I keep doing the work that I know brings out the results I want, all in due time. I know I tend to be impatient; I want results “yesterday” … but I also know that a relaxed mind and a positive mental attitude, backed up by a burning desire will get me there. I’ve come so far already, and I am persistent! (Which in itself is pretty huge for a former procrastinator and worrywart …..)

Who ARE You???

“This above all: to thine own self be true.”

Sound advice from Shakespear. Be true to yourself. The tricky part is to figure out who you really are….

WHO are you?

Who ARE you?

Who are YOU?

If you cannot answer these questions easily, you’re definitely not alone and there is nothing wrong with you! What you think, feel, say and do might not always serve you or others, but you can change your behaviour. YOU are not what you do. YOU are unique. Never change YOU!

So, what is left if you’re not what you think, feel, say and do? That IS a good question! We have created a safe environment for self-discovery, using Joseph Cambell’s formula of The Hero’s Journey. Try it for FREE* for 4 weeks to see if this is something for YOU: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse
* All we ask, should you decide to apply for a free spot, is a registration fee of one US dollar. $1! That’s it! Before you decide if it’s worth your dollar, watch my friend Mark’s free videos here: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse

Ralph Waldo Emerson writes in his essay ‘Self-Reliance’: depending on the rules and regulations of society to dictate our lives limits our ability to explore our true selves. As we age, we lose bits of our true selves in favour of conforming to the norms and expectations of society.

Mind Weeding 101

Learning about great authors that aren’t exactly mainstream was one of the bonuses at the self-discovery course I joined last fall.

The paragraphs below are from a book by James Allen, published in 1903. The title ‘As a Man Thinketh’ is influenced by a verse in the Book of Proverbs, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he”, but it’s not a Christian book per se. Spiritual, yes. (If you’re curious about the Law of Attraction, this might be the kind of book you’re looking for).

The original text of ‘As A Man Thinketh’ is in the Public Domain. The text I have copied below is an excerpt from a revised version by Christopher Westra, and you can read the entire book on his web site. You may also order the book here (free shipping worldwide).

“Your mind may be likened to a garden. This garden may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, grow something. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall into it, and will continue to produce their kind.

A gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing the flowers and fruits that he requires. So may you tend the garden of your mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts. Cultivate toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts. Thus you will grow in truth, intelligence, and light.

By pursuing this process, you sooner or later discover that you are the master-gardener of your soul, the director of your life. You also reveal, within yourself, the flaws of thought, and understand, with ever-increasing accuracy, how the thought-forces and mind elements operate in the shaping of your character, circumstances, and destiny. Thought leads to character. As character can only reveal itself through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of your life will always be harmoniously related to your inner state.

This does not mean that your circumstances at any given time indicate your entire character. It does mean that your outer conditions are intimately connected to some vital inner thought processes. Some of these thoughts and beliefs may be below the level of your current awareness. You are where you are in life because of the laws of thought. The thoughts that you have built into your character have brought you here.

In the arrangement of your life, there is no element of chance, but all is the result of a law that cannot be broken. This is just as true for those of you who feel “out of harmony” with your surroundings as for those of you who are contented with your place in life.”

I am a gardener of my own mind and I continue to weed …. and I know that I will succeed. Rome was not built in one day, nor will my weeding be finished overnight. But I persist and I have the weeding tools I need, thanks to this online course which you can check out right now!

Free Will? Think Again!

Who do you think calls the shots? All your decisions are first made in the subconscious mind. Believe you have free will? Let’s see how that works …

Graphic by Bibi, using a royalty-free image from Pixabay.

In a single second, the conscious mind can process 40 frames of information.
In that same second, the subconscious mind processes 1.2 million frames of information.

Who’s really running the show? The subconscious mind drives our decision-making and the fraction of the human brain we call the conscious mind, does very little but rationalise our decisions and convince ourselves that we’ve made the right one.

Graphic by Bibi, using a royalty-free image from Pixabay

Brain Scanners Can See Your Decisions Before You Make Them

More than 20 years ago, brain scientist Benjamin Libet found a brain signal that occurred in the brain before a conscious decision was made. Many scientists argued that if our decisions are prepared unconsciously by the brain, then our feeling of “free will” must be an illusion.

Believing that you are in charge of your own mind is much like a turtle sitting on the back of a speeding leopard, thinking it – the turtle – can run that fast!

OK, so that was the bad news.

The good news is that you CAN train your subconscious to make SURE it makes the decisions you want.

How? Elementary, my dear Dr Watson. By changing your habits.

The subconscious mind runs on autopilot. We repeat the same kind of thoughts and behaviours every single day for years on end, because the subconscious mind tells you to. It’s a habit.

It’s a habit to feel either happy or miserable. It’s a habit to munch on crappy food and it’s a habit to eat healthy. It’s a habit to think worst case scenario and it’s a habit to be optimistic and solution oriented. The list goes on.

So, what do you want? To think happier thoughts, perhaps? To stop procrastonating, maybe? Or maybe you want to loose weight, stop smoking, get rid of fear and anxiety once and for all, and simply FEEL better about yourself? What do you WANT for your own life?

If you really want to change your life, you first have to change your mind – your subconscious mind!

My life was going fast downhill and I was crippled with anxiety and panic attacks. I’m a survivor because I changed my mind. Now that I know what works, I want to help others who struggle. That’s why I recommend this course. ‘Cos it WORKS!

This is the course that turned my life around in a matter of weeks. Now it’s your turn.

Course runs only once a year. First class is on the 27th of September. Check it out while there is still time to join.

Take Charge of Your Time!

Where do you see yourself in 6 months from now? What, if anything, are you doing to make sure you are in a better place than you are right now?

If you don’t have the time to do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?

The #1 excuse people use for not improving their lives is that they don’t have the time. Guess what? Time is going to pass anyway, whether you DO something to improve your life or not.

There are basically two types of people in the world.

Type 1: People who are always willing to learn, grow and improve themselves.
Type 2: Those who would rather stay put where they are. Even if they’re miserable, at least it feels safe (because it’s familiar).

If you prefer to spend the next six months watching time pass by, this course is not for you: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse
This course is for people who want to improve their lives. It’s NOT for sissies. Doing this course is going to take AT LEAST one hour of your prescious time, each day for 26 weeks (starting Sept. 27th, 2020).

The course is scholarship based with limited spots.

Before I joined this course last fall, I was a nervous wreck. Totally worn out from struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, and depressions, I didn’t think I had the energy to work on myself for the Nth time…. I seriously doubted that I was even “fixable”, and I didn’t think I was ready to give it a shot to find out. Luckily, it turned out that I was wrong. I was ready. I was RIPE!

And now, one year later? At age 53, I have finally discovered my inner strength and my own value. I am happy – not just now and then, but as a natural “mood default”. But hey, I’m human – I have ALL the emotions like anyone else, the difference for me – compared to how I was before – is that I don’t stay down/upset/angry/hurt and what have you, and I no longer dwell on the past for hours on end, nor do I worry myself sick about the future. If I fall, and I do, I get back up. I feel a lot more confident, and I know what my purpose is and what my passions are. And – I have found my tribe with kind and compassionate people, and made friends with such wonderful and supportive individuals from many countries.

Full disclosure: After having done the 6 months course as a regular student, I was invited to train with the staff to become a Certified Guide for new students… and I have just passed my exam with flying colours! Hence, I am affiliated with this course. It’s the best thing I have ever done for myself, and now I want to help others who are willing to put in the effort. I don’t charge anyone to be their guide – it’s just something I do because I really want to help others.

You’ll never have to feel lonesome in this class. You get hands-on help from a Certified Guide and you’ll meet people like yourself who are curious, willing to grow and improve.

Find out what it’s all about: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse

Be a hero in YOUR life! You can do this.

This course is only taught once a year. It’s scholarship based with limited spots. Giddy up!

Don’t Poke my Comfy Zone!

For many years, my main goal was to protect my Comfort Zone

– or my Comfy Dome, as I called it.

I had created a safe place for myself, and hearing that ‘learning happens outside of your comfort zone’ rubbed me in all kinds of wrong directions. I could learn just fine inside my Comfy Dome!

And I was right. You can learn things inside your comfort zone.

And I was wrong. There is a limit to how much you can learn if you stay within the boundaries of your comfort zone …

………………………………….. and I claimed that was okay with that.

……… but you know that it was my fear talking, right?

This is how I imagined my “comfy dome” – a safe haven for me to live and be happy. Everything was just fine

Image made by me, combining graphics from Pixabay

Just fine??

I had been telling myself that lie for so long, I believed it. Hey, I liked being comfortable!  Who doesn’t?

But how comfortable could I actually be when I was scared shitless of everything outside my own little “Comfy Dome”?? It was indeed little. The world outside of my dome was the scariest place I could imagine:

Image made by me, combining graphics from Pixabay

Did you hear what I just said? “The scariest place I could imagine.”. Imagine being the key word!

The scary place was inside me, not out there!!! In my mind I had created so much fear that it held me back from living an amazing life. I was a prisoner of my own mind.

“Fear is a powerful form of thought. It paralyzes the nerve centers, thus affecting the circulation of the blood. This, in turn, paralyzes the muscular system, so that fear affects the entire being, body, brain and nerve, physical, mental, and muscular.”

– Charles Haanel

I know the above statement is true; I ended up being physically ill. I was not only trapped in my own mind but in my own body … all because of fear. Fear that I had created with my own thoughts. I didn’t know any better.

But then …

I joined a self-discovery course back in the fall of 2019 – somewhat reluctantly, I admit, full of anxiety and scepticism as I was at the time. But I will be forever grateful to have learned at that course that we can expand our Comfort Zone and that we can do it an inch at a time – by gently nudging it, not leaping off the side of the edge. (Been there, done that! Only to fall flat on my nose. I felt like I had taken seven steps forward, then 10 back!!)

I made this image to illustrate the different zones:

The comfort zone is where your day-to-day, routine work happens – where you’re on auto-pilot. There are no surprises, you are confident in what you do. Most of us need some days in the comfort zone. Some learning and innovation can take place in this zone, but if you stay there for too long you might get bored and lack motivation.

The learning zone – aka the stretch zone lies just outside of your comfort zone. When you stretch it a little and then go back to your comfort zone, you can reflect and apply what you learned – this is growth.

The panic zone – aka stress zone. By trying to control your stress and/or anxiety, you are drained from energy and very little, if any, learning takes place. We may have to enter this zone to deal with an emergency, but staying in the stress zone for long can be harmful to our health.

A Helpful Question

I have asked myself a question that has proven to be very helpful, which is:
“What would the person I intend to become do next?”

I ask myself that question in many different situations throughout the day, but let’s leave that for another post. When I ask myself that question regarding the comfort zone, this is my answer: She continues to gently nudge and nudge until her comfort zone has expanded a bit. Then she nudges it again, and again. She is courageous! She is curious to see what she can accomplish! She also wants to find out how she can be helpful to others when she continues to nudge that edge, gently, respectfully, with self-compassion.

Because of this exercise, I am now free from my previous “Comfy Dome” once and for all and I have replaced it with an actual Comfort Zone, where I relax and apply what I am learning. Then I do it all over again, nudge the edge and expand, go back and apply new knowledge.

I am now enjoying the journey called life, like the true hero that I am.

When in doubt, ask yourself this question: What would the person I intend to become do next? You might be surprised when you hear the answer…

The amazing self-discovery course is now open to new students, and you can find it here: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse

The Hero’s Journey Explained

How to use the Hero’s Journey in your own life.

This documentary, featuring Deepak Chopra, Robin Sharma, Rashida Jones, Sir Ken Robinson, is about Joseph Campbell and the Hero’s Journey. Give it a few minutes and see what you think. (Watch the video down below).

In narratology and comparative mythology, the hero’s journey (aka monomyth) is the common template of stories that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, is victorious in a decisive crisis, and comes home changed or transformed.

Numerous literary works of popular fiction have been identified as examples of the Hero’s Journey template, including Star Wars, Moby Dick, Jane Eyre, and works by Charles Dickens, William Faulkner, Hemingway, Twain, C. S. Lewis, Tolkien, and Stephen King, just to name a few.

Last fall, I joined an online course to learn more about the Hero’s Journey and how to use it – not only as a writer (I do use Campbell’s formula for WIP novel), but also to find out how I could be a hero in my own life. The course was amazing!! I have recommended it to everyone I know and a few friends have signed up already. The course is offered only once a year and the next one starts on the 27th of September.

Would you like to learn more about the Hero’s Journey and the gold within you? Check out this class: tinyurl.com/HeroCourse
You’ll get to see the first video in a series of three right away after leaving your email address at the first page. (You can of course unsub at any time)
